Data Rationalization

KDM has developed a set of "smart tools" designed to capture existing catalogue and index information from different forms of databases. These may run from simple Excel type spreadsheets to more complex Oracle databases containing information about the seismic data. The starting point for reconciling seismic line to inventory is receiving a copy or dump of the navigation database. The meta-data, typically an inventory database containing data about the data, can then be mapped, cleaned and matched to the unique line ID's in the navigation database.

KDM's tools consist of four modules and are used to assist in the rationalization process. The intent is to combine all the available information contained in source databases by receiving 'dumps' of this information and combining them into a single inventory database with permanent links to the navigation location data. The source databases could be, but are not restricted to Ownership data, Inventory data and/or any Acquired database.

It is important to realize that seismic expertise is the key component required completing this process. KDM's experience in the cleanup and movement of very large data sets in conjunction with our client's knowledge of the data set itself are vital factors in insuring timely results. Through this process a single database utilizing PPDM is created and available for the client's use on-line.

Progress is Inevitable

"KDM's solution is the best available because they take advantage of technology and they respond to clients' needs." - Kathy Taerum, Geophysicist - Application Support, Conoco Canada Resources Ltd.
